Three suspected criminals were killed in reported gunfights in Bogra and Jessore districts.
The incidents occurred early Wednesday.
In Bogra, two suspected criminals were killed in a reported gunfight between two gangs of criminals at a bridge near Bhabanipur bazaar in Sherpur upazila.
Police found two locally made guns and two bullets from the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Dhanesh alias Sukumar Sarkar, 38, from Gaibandha, and Afzal Hossain, 55, from Natore, Additional Superintendent (ASP Media) of Bogra sadar circle police Sonaton Chakrabarty told Dhaka Tribune.
He said acting on a tip-off, a police team, led by Sherpur circle ASP Gaziur Rahman and Sherpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir, conducted a drive in the area. Arriving on the scene, they found the bullet-riddled bodies of Dhanesh and Afzal on the ground.
The police force took them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctors declared them dead. Police claimed that Afzal was an active member of the outlawed militant group Purbo Banglar Communist Party (East Bengal Communist Party) or PBCP.
ASP Sonaton further said Afzal was wanted in 20 cases and Dhanesh in 11 cases filed with various police stations countrywide. Meanwhile, separate cases have been filed with Sherpur police station in this regard.
In Jessore, a suspected criminal named Shishir Ghosh was killed in a gunfight with police near a brick kiln in Mahidia area of sadar upazila.
Police recovered explosives, a firearm and two bullets from the spot.
Two policemen were also injured in the incident, confirmed Jessore Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Moniruzzaman told Dhaka Tribune.
He said: "Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Shishir from Shankarpur area and seized four improvised bombs from his possession."
Police conducted a drive in the Mahidia area, taking Shishir along with them after he confessed that he has more firearms in store.
When they reached the spot, Shishir's accomplices opened fire on the police force, forcing them to retaliate in self-defence and triggering a gunfight, which left Shishir injured.
Police then took him to Jessore General Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead. Shishir was wanted in 16 cases on charges of murder and extortion with Kotwali police station.
