Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation has resumed ferry services on the Shimulia-Kanthalbari route nine hours after suspension.
Hundreds of travellers of both the ends suffered immensely due to the disruption.
Eleven ferries started their operation around 9am on Thursday after the authorities suspended it around 11:45pm on Wednesday due to navigation crisis, said Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury, BIWTC’s deputy general manager (commerce) at Shimulia pontoon.
More than 400 vehicles were waiting at Shimulia in Munshiganj to reach Kanthalbari in Madaripur crossing the Padma river, he said.
The authorities resumed ferry services by an alternative channel as the silt caused shut its earlier channel, he said.
