Mother, daughter die in slum fire near Chittagong EPZ

The fire originated at a shanty in the slum around 7:35pm

A mother and her daughter were burned alive when a fire broke out in a slum shack near  Kalsi Dighi Par of the Chittagong EPZ area.

The deceased were identified as Sheuli Akter, 35, and her daughter Lamia, 7.

The reason for the fire could not be determined immediately.

“The fire originated in a slum shack around 7:35pm. A 35-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter in that shack were killed by the blaze,” said Mohammad Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

Nine vehicles of three units from the Fire Service and Civil Defense put out the fire in a combined effort.

Bandar police station Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Chakrabarty told the Dhaka Tribune that the fire was brought under control at 8:30pm.
