Officials and employees of municipalities in several districts continue to stage demonstrations for the second day, to press home their demand of receiving monthly salaries, and other amenities from the state treasury rather than from the funds of municipalities .
Various organizations consisting of employees and officials of municipalities took part in observing work abstention, and forming human chains as part of their protest, which began on Monday.
In Manikganj, members of the Bangladesh Municipality Service Association, Manikganj unit, along with the Manikganj District Committee observed work abstention for 5 hours, and formed a human chain from 9am till 1pm in front of the Manikganj Press Club yesterday.
In Sirajganj, municipality workers from several upazilas of the district observed work abstention at the city’s Press Club intersection, organized by the Bangladesh Municipality Service Association Sirajganj unit.
In Tangail, members of the Tangail Municipality Service Association held demonstrations in front of the Shahid Minar area in the district municipality, around 11am yesterday.
In Natore, workers of eight municipalities went on work abstention from 9am on Monday morning.
Bangladesh Municipal Service Association Central Organizing Secretary Julfiqur Hayder, and Natore unit president Provat Kumar Chanda spoke at a protest meeting in front of Natore Municipality building.
In Habiganj, officials, and employees of Habiganj Municipality staged a sit-in, on Monday, to press home their demands. The sit-in program arranged by the Bangladesh Municipal Service Association Habiganj unit, started at 9am, and ended at 5pm.
