Local divers have recovered the dead body of a missing navy man, who drowned while crossing Paindu Canal in Ruma upazila of Bandarban.
The body was recovered around 12pm on Monday.
Police and witnesses said, a team of six tourists, including Md Asif alias Saifullah, a 23-year-old second lieutenant from Bangladesh Navy, and Jannat, an 18-year-old student from Green Heart Art College, went to visit the Tinap Saitar Waterfall in the upazila.
On their way back, the two drowned, and went missing around 6pm on Saturday.
The incident happened in a remote area, so the administration was unaware of it till Sunday. Later five divers were sent for rescue and search on Monday morning.
Thoai Ching Mong Marma, a businessman of Naya Khang Para of the upazila, said: “The dead body was recovered around noon, but has not yet reached the Sadar.”
On the other hand, a dead body of a woman was recovered from Sangu River in Satkania upazila of Chittagong. Locals think it to be the body of Jannat, which might have drifted over to the river.
The upazila’s Executive Officer Md Shamsul Alam said: “Locals have informed us after recovering the unidentified body. It will take us around five hours to reach there, and identify it.”
