UP chairman, member held for raping colleague

Police have arrested the chairman and a member of Bajubagha Union Parishad in Bagha allegedly for gang raping a female member at its office. The arrestees are UP Chairman Jannat Ali and Ward No 4 Member Alauddin. The victim was sent to One-Stop Crisis Centre at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Bagha police’s Officer-in-Charge Ali Mahmud said that the duo had called up the woman to a room of the UP building Thursday afternoon and raped her. Locals sensed the matter after hearing her screams. They locked the room from outside and informed the police. Meanwhile, police recovered the hanging body of a sixth grader from the upazila’s Mominpur village Thursday. Arafat Hossain, 12, son of Nasir Uddin was found hanging from a tree near his house. Headmaster Abdullah Al Helal Kanak of Rustompur High School suspects that the boy committed suicide after his mother scolded him to go to school.
