3 children, 2 women raped in five districts

A mother of one was gang-raped for a month

Three children and a woman were raped in Brahmanbaria, Savar, Madaripur and Tangail in the past two days. Meanwhile, a woman was blackmailed and gang-raped for a month in Thakurgaon.

In Brahmanbaria, a ninth-grader was raped and smothered to death allegedly by her brother-in-law in Sadar upazila early on Thursday.

Upon information, police recovered the body of Tamanna Aktar, 15, from the residence of Nayeem Islam, 27, the main suspect, who is on the run.

According to Tamanna’s sister, Sreeti, who is married to Nayeem, he drugged her and their daughter with spiked mango juice on Wednesday night.

When Sreeti woke up the next morning, she found Tamanna covered in blood. She immediately called the police. 

Brahmanbaria Sadar Model police station Inspector Atiqur Rahman said: “We recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. We are waiting for the report.”

In Savar, an 11-year-old speech-impaired child was raped in Dhamrai upazila on Thursday.

Police arrested 63-year-old Thandu Molla the same day from the municipality.

Dhamrai police station Sub-inspector Sheikh Kamrul said: “The girl was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. A case was filed by the girl’s brother.”

According to the case statement, Thandu raped the girl, who lives in the neighbourhood, after finding her alone at home. Locals rescued the child and handed over the suspect to the police.

In Madaripur, a four-year-old child was raped by a teenager near Takerhat area of Rajoir upazila on Wednesday.

The child was initially taken to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex, but later transferred to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

According to the girl’s mother, a 15-year-old local boy took the girl to a deserted jute field and allegedly raped her. When she screamed for help, the mother rushed to her rescue and the suspect made his escape.

Firoz Mallik, a local villager, said: “We sent the child to the hospital and advised the parents to file a case.”

Minara Hossain of Madaripur Sadar Hospital said: “A child was admitted who was reportedly raped. Various samples have been collected.”

Muksekpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafa Kamal Pasha said: “These incidents are usually concealed. I was not made aware of it. I will further inquire and investigate this.”

In Thakurgaon, a mother of one was gang-raped for a month after being blackmailed by the alleged rapists with a video clip of the initial rape in Baliadangi upazila.

Police arrested one of the accused, Saddam Hossain, 21, and sent him to jail following a court order on Wednesday.

The woman’s husband filed a case against two men with Baliadangi police station on Tuesday.

According to the case statement, about a month ago, the woman was apprehended by the suspects and raped in a maize field. The pair filmed the rape and demanded that she keep silent. The men then raped the woman several times over the next month.

At one point, the woman fought against their demands, so they uploaded the video on social media.

The woman said: “After the video was uploaded online, people made all sorts of comments. But my husband stood by me.”

The woman’s husband said: “I was unable to stand the torture that was dealt to my wife. So, I filed the case, seeking justice.” 

Baliadangi police station OC Mosabberul Hoque said: “We immediately arrested one of the accused and are trying to catch the other.”

In Tangail, a woman was raped at home in Bhuapur upazila when her husband was away on Wednesday night.

Locals caught the suspected rapist, Moniruzzaman Roni, 24, and handed him over to the police on Thursday.

According to the locals, Roni broke into the woman’s house and raped her. When she screamed for help, neighbours came and rescued her, and held Roni.

Bhuapur police station OC Rashidul Islam said: “The suspect was sent to jail following a court order. A case was filed over the incident. The woman was sent to Tangail General Hospital.”
