2 killed in Jhenaidah road accident

Two fire service units came to the rescue

A driver and his helper have been killed after a truck fell into a canal, under a bridge, in Jhenaidah.

The incident occurred in Chalabhora area of Kaliganj upazila around 6am on Sunday.

The deceased are, driver Jony, 35, son of Manik Ali hailing from Madhabpur village of Bherapara upazila in Kushtia, and helper Tauhid, 21.

Sub Inspector (SI) of Kaliganj police station Kazi Abul Khayer confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

According to witnesses, police, and fire service the cement loaded truck was travelling to Kushtia from Khulna, when one of its front tyres exploded making the driver lose control. Following which, the truck fell from the bridge into the canal.

Later, two fire units of Kaliganj and Jhenaidah Fire Service reached the spot and recovered the dead bodies.

Kaliganj Fire Service Station Officer Shamsur Rahman said: “We had to cut a part of the truck to take the bodies out.”

Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj police station Yunus Ali said: “The dead bodies will soon be sent to Jhenaidah Hospital morgue for autopsy.”
