Police have arrested two men for allegedly gang raping a woman in Hizla upazila of Barisal.

The arrestees are Zakir Hossain Golandaz, an autorickshaw driver from Amtali upazila of Barguna, and Sahabuddin Chowdhury, a fish farm owner in Hizla.

SM Maksudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Hizla police station, on Saturday said: “The 25-year-old woman came from Dhaka to visit her relatives in Dhulia’s Maddha Char under Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal.

“On Friday afternoon the woman hired Zakir’s autorickshaw to visit a relative, when Zakir abducted her and took her to Sahabuddin’s fish farm near Ekota Kheyaghat, where they raped her.”

Informed by locals, investigation officer Inspector Mainuddin Ahmed reached the spot with his team and rescued the woman.

Police also detained a teenage associate of the miscreants and based on his information arrested the duo.

The woman confirmed that the teenager was not involved in the rape but accompanied the miscreants.

A case has been filed under the act of preventing torture against women and children, and the woman was sent to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital for medical tests.
