Initially thought to be a suicide attack as Islamic State claimed responsibilities, the police later revealed that the explosions were from “time bomb-like devices" used by Ashraful, who had travelled from the Borohat den to back up his counterparts in Atia Mahal.Police said that the bomber who attacked a crowd outside the infamous Atia Mahal in Sylhet on March 25 has been identified as one Ashraful Alam Nazim.
“Ashraful is from the Sonaimuri upazilla of Noakhali. Law enforcement agencies are gathering further details,” said Moulvibazar Police Superintendent Mohammed Shahjahan.
The police official made the announced at a press briefing on Monday afternoon.
Ashraful’s body was among those recovered from the Borohat militant den in Moulvibazar during Operation Maximus.
