BSF kills Bangladeshi in Chapainawabganj border

The deceased, along with some others, was trying to cut the Indian barbed-wire fence when BSF opened fire

A Bangladeshi man has been shot dead by members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Chapainawabganj.

The incident occurred at the Gilabari border in the district's Bholahat upazila early on Tuesday.

The deceased, Jahirul Islam, 25, was from Futanibazar of the upazila.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, the commanding officer of Chapainawabganj Battalion 59 of Border Guard Bangladesh, Mahmudul Hasan, said: "Jahirul, along with some other people, crossed the zero line and tried to cut the Indian barbed-wire fence around 4:30am on Tuesday.

"Members of Kristapur BSF border outpost opened fire on them, leaving Jahirul dead."

"We held a flag meeting with BSF in the morning and protested the killing of the Bangladeshi citizen” he added.

"BSF will hand over the body to Bangladesh after an autopsy.”
