Police arrested six Indian citizens on Wednesday in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj for entering the country illegally.
The arrestees are Daulat Sheikh, 42, Moazzem Sheikh, 22, Tajamul Sheikh, 25, Bablu Mandal, 22, Biswajit Singha, 19, and Bishnu Singha, 19, of Malda district in West Bengal.
At around 11:30am on Thursday, the arrestees were brought before Chapainawabganj Superintendent of Police (SP).
Chapainawabganj Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mahbub Alam Khan, while talking to reporters said that, based on a tip-off, detective branch (DB) of police conducted a raid at Pechiparai village of Shibganj around 7pm on Wednesday and arrested six Indian citizens for entering the country illegal.
According to police, the arrestees confessed in primary interrogation that they were involved in smuggling people through Indo-Bangladesh border.
A case has been filed with Shibganj police station over the matter.
