Police arrested a woman from Mirzapur upazila over a case filed for assisting in an attempted rape.
Afiya Begum, 30, a female staff of a non-governmental organization (NGO), was arrested from the Pakulla market area in Mirzapur.
According to sources, on Sunday morning, Tanjirul Hasan Jibon, area manager of the NGO, Joogbani Shamajkallan, attempted to rape a college girl in his office, whom he met five days ago in a bus and offered a job.
Earlier that morning Tanjirul asked Afiya Begum to call the girl to his office promising the job.
The girl jumped from the second floor to save herself from Tanjirul and broke her hip bone. She is now receiving treatment in a local hospital.
Mirzapur police station OC Mosharraf Hossain said: "The girl's mother filed a rape attempt case in connection with the incident. Police arrested Afiya Begum and efforts are underway to arrest the main accused Tanjirul."
