A mobile court has fined five establishments Tk10 lakh, and destroyed huge amounts of adulterated foodstuffs and polythene—worth Tk20 lakh—in Rangpur.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 13 conducted the day-long anti-adulteration drives on Thursday, reports BSS.
A press release stated: “Led by Executive Magistrate Anisur Rahman—from RAB headquarters—the court conducted drives, in different areas of the city, with officials of the Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institute (BSTI) and other organizations.”
The mobile court fined Fulkuri Lachhcha Bread and Confectionery—in Jalkor area of the city—Tk3 lakh, for producing adulterated foodstuffs. They then seized and destroyed adulterated foodstuffs, worth Tk3.80 lakh, as per the laws concerned.
Later, the court fined Everyday Food Factory Tk1 lakh, in the same area; then seized and destroyed adulterated foodstuffs—worth Tk3 lakh—that had been produced in an unhygienic and dirty environment.
The mobile court fined Sonali Bakery Tk2 lakh for producing and marketing adulterated vermicelli in an unhygienic and dirty environment— near Jalochhatara area—then seized and destroyed adulterated foodstuffs worth Tk3 lakh.
The mobile court fined Messer’s Mala Printing and Packaging Factory Tk2 lakh at Honumantola area of the city. They seized illegally-produced polythene sheets worth about Tk10 lakh and destroyed them in the afternoon.
“Additionally, the mobile court fined Mithu Hotel and Restaurant Tk2 lakh at Mithu Mour area, seized and destroyed large amounts of adulterated foodstuffs worth Tk20,000,” the press release added.
