Thousands of passengers have remained stranded at several railway stations as a bridge collapsed in Madhubpur of Habiganj disrupted rail communication between Sylhet with rest of the country.
Saiful Islam, station master at Shaistaganj station, said: “The No 56 railway bridge in Itakhali area of Madhubpur collapsed in the morning [Wednesday] due to flash flood caused by heavy rain.”
Thousands of passengers have got stuck in several stations due to the incident.
Deputy Assistant Engineer of Shaistaganj Ruhul Amin Khan said that they were trying to repair the bridge, but could not confirm how long it might take.
