A man has been detained after allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in Panchpara under Chandraganj union of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.
The accused, Belal Hossain—the victim's neighbour—purportedly lured the girl to his room and raped her on Thursday afternoon, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj police station Abul Kalam Azad.
Upon hearing her screams, locals rescued the injured girl and admitted her to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.
The on-duty doctor, Md Nasiruddin, said doctors suspect she was raped, based upon a primary check-up. "However, we will be able to say for certain once we receive the medical report."
The detainee is a truck assistant, the OC added. A case is being prepared in connection with the incident.
