Two suspected pirates have been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Kutubdia upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The incident occurred in Ali Akbar Deil area of the upazila early on Tuesday.
The deceased are Irfan Ullah Prakash alias Irfan Majhi, and his associate Nur Hossain.
Law enforcement recovered a locally-made gun, four bullet shells, and 400 yaba pills from the site.
Kutubdia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Didar Ferdous told Dhaka Tribune: “Irfan Majhi’s gang members opened fire at the police—while the police was conducting a raid to recover arms—forcing the police to fire back in self defense. Later, their bodies were found at the crime scene.”
He further said there were seven cases, including murder cases, filed against Irfan. The deceased’s body has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
