Two people, including a child, were killed on Sunday in Habiganj after being struck by lightning in separate incidents.
The deceased are Dengu Mia, a 50-year-old farmer from Habiganj Sadar upazila, and eight-year-old Salma Akhter from Baniachong upazila.
Three of Dengu Mia's sons were also injured in the incident.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Pail Union Council Chairman Moinul Haque Arif said that the farmer was killed on the spot when lightning struck at noon in Gungiajuri haor area.
"Three of his sons were also injured in the incident and admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital," the chairman added.
The other victim, Salma, was injured after being struck by lightning while playing in her courtyard. She was sent in critical condition to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Debashish Das, a doctor working at the hospital, said Salma likely died on her way to the hospital.
