Four brick kilns workers were killed and four others injured, when a jeep ploughed into a house in Gabtol of Rangunia upazila, Chittagong district.
The deceased, Zafar Uddin, 35, Nazim, 25, Reaz, 15, and Munna, 50, as well as the injured, are all from Hatiya upazila of Noakhali.
The jeep, locally named "Chander Gari," ploughed into the house around 4am on Thursday and turned over when its driver lost steering control.
Rangunia police station OC Imtiaz Bhuiyan said: "The four workers died on the spot.
"The owner of the brick kiln and the jeep driver fled the scene soon after the accident.”
Abu Bakar Siddique of Rangunia fire station said: "The jeep was carrying logs for the brick kiln.
"Two of the injured were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital while the other two were given primary treatment at a local health complex.”
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Rangunia police station, he added.
Four others died in four districts on Thursday
In Rangamati, a motorcyclist died when a police van collided head-on with his motorbike near the old Rangamati Police Lines around 9 am.
The deceased, Buddha Bijoy Chakma, died at Rangamati Sadar Hospital.
Rangamati Kotwali police station OC, Zahidul Haq Rony, said: “Police will hand over the body to family members once the autopsy is completed.”
In Patuakhali, a man died and another was injured, when their vehicle fell into a ditch near Mollakhali in Dumki upazila.
The deceased was identified as Ripon and the injured was driver Abdur Rahman.
Dumki police station OC, Moniruzzaman, said: “The injured has been sent to Barisal for better treatment.”
In Tangail, Mojnu Miya, 45, died, run over by a three-wheeler on the Madhupur-Mymensingh Highway.
The Madhupur Fire Service sent him to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-call doctor pronounced him dead.
In Naogaon, a schoolgirl died and two others were injured, hit by a tractor hauling bricks in Raninagar upazila.
Tastia, died on the spot, and Momtaz and Sumi were taken to a private clinic.
Raninagar police said: “The vehicle was seized, but the driver fled.”
