A woman has confessed to her involvement in the murder of her deed writer husband in Barisal.
Amina Aktar Liza, 30, second wife of deed writer Rejaul Karim Riaj, 40, confessed that her husband was hacked to death by her lover on early Friday, after she had put sedatives in her husband’s food to render him unconscious, according to Barisal Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (South) Moazzem Hossain Bhuiyan.
Riaj divorced his first wife, as she had been unable to bear a child, and married Liza four years ago.
The deed writer’s body was recovered by police on Friday morning. There were a number of slash wounds on the body, including on the neck.
Riaj’s brother Monirul Islam Ripon filed a case regarding the incident with Kotwali police station in Barisal on Saturday.
Police detained Liza, her brother, and one of Riaj’s brothers for interrogation after the case was filed. The two others were released after Liza confessed that she had divorced two former husbands to take their property, and had married Riaj to take his property as well, said Barisal Kotwali police station OC Nurul Islam.
Quoting Liza’s confession, police sources said she had been pressuring Riaj to transfer his properties to her name, but he had refused.
Subseqeuntly, Liza and her lover Masum, Riaj’s assistant, designed a plan to murder her husband. After Liza mixed sedatives into Riaj’s food, Masum and his associate Hailla entered their home on Thursday night and hacked Riaj to death in his bedroom while he was unconscious.
Masum and Hailla fled the scene after making it look like it was an attempted burglary gone wrong, and Liza phoned police in the morning.
Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Bashir Ahmed said Liza was sent to jail by a court after the recording of her confessional statement, and police are trying to arrest the other culprits.
