Suspected drug trader killed in Teknaf 'gunfight'

Police have recovered two LG, seven rounds of bullets, nine bullet casings, and 2,400 yaba pills

A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight between two gangs of drug traders in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.

The incident took place in Kanjarpara pahari area in Whykong union of the upazila early Saturday.

The deceased - Shahab Uddin, 42 - hailed from Taranniarchhara village of the union.

Police have recovered two LG, seven rounds of bullets, nine bullet casings, and 2,400 yaba pills from the spot.

Teknaf Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das said: "When police arrived at the scene after receiving information that two gangs of drug traders were shooting at each other, they escaped towards the hills."

He said, after raiding the place, police found a bullet-riddled body, along with arms and ammunition, from the crime scene. The body was then sent to Teknaf Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Shahab was a marked drug trader of the area, and accused in several cases. His body has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, the OC added.
