Senior Journalist Shafiq Zaman Lebu passes away

His namaz-e-janaza was held at the Tennis Club grounds in Dewanpara of Jamalpur

Noted journalist Shafiq Zaman Lebu passed away at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) late Friday night. He was 55 years old.

He had severe chest pain on Friday morning and was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital around 10am.

Undergoing treatment there, Shafiq suffered cardiac arrest in the afternoon. As his condition deteriorated, he was moved to MMCH where the duty doctors pronounced him dead around 9:30pm.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at the Tennis Club grounds in Dewanpara of Jamalpur around 6pm Saturday.

He was later laid to rest beside his mother’s grave in Jamalpur Municipal Cemetery.

Earlier, Shafiq's body was taken to the Jamalpur District Press Club premises on Saturday afternoon, where colleagues and well-wishers flocked to pay their last respects.

President of Jamalpur District Press Club, Shafiq was also staff correspondent of NTV, district correspondent of Bangladesh Pratidin, and advertisement correspondent for Dhaka Tribune.

He was unmarried and leaves behind, a brother, two sisters, and countless well wishers.
