Incidents of rape nationwide are increasing at an alarming rate with six girls reportedly raped in the past two days.
In Barguna, an eighth-grader was reportedly lured to a local forest and raped, seduced by a man in Patharghata upazila on Thursday.
The girl was rescued by locals from the Haringhata area and was taken to the Patharghata Health Complex for medical attention.
Her family said the police were reluctant to record a case in this regard.
Patharghata police station OC, Hanif Sikder, denied the allegation and said: “Nobody came to file a case, even though we asked family members to file a case immediately after the incident.”
When asked about the case status, he said a case was being processed.
Barguna Additional Superintendent of Police, Tofayel Ahmed, said: “Police are working on arresting the suspects in accordance with the case statement.”
In Joypurhat, an eight-year-old speech impaired girl was raped by a man in Bhugoil village of Kalai upazila on Thursday.
Police arrested a suspect named Mehedi Hasan, 37.
Kalai police station OC, Abdul Latif Khan, said: “Mehedi, a neighbour, took the girl to his house and violated her in the absence of family members in the afternoon.
“Informed by locals, police went to the spot and rescued the girl, taking her to Joypurhat Modern Hospital.”
Following a case filed by her mother, police arrested Mehedi on Thursday night, he added.
In Noakhali, a woman was reportedly abducted and gang raped in Sonaimuri upazila, on Wednesday night.
The woman was a single mother of two children and lived in the upazila’s Nateshwar union.
Police found the woman in Daulatpur village of Bargaon union and admitted her to Noakhali General Hospital on Thursday morning.
The rape survivor’s father, Abdul Baki, filed a case with Sonaimuri police station, accusing four men of rape.
Subsequently, police arrested two suspects: Aminul Islam Montu and Nizam Uddin, on Thursday evening.
In Comilla, a woman was allegedly raped by a neighbour at Uttarpara of Nangalkot upazila, on Thursday night.
The accused is Nuruzzaman Raju who stormed the woman’s house at night and raped her, said locals.
After hearing the woman scream, locals rushed to the scene and caught Raju fleeing, confining him to a fish enclosure, but he fled.
The woman's father filed a case with Nangalkot police station in this connection, said Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station.
In Gopalganj, a home tutor raped a fourth-grader and abducted her after she was admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital, on Thursday.
The girl was a student at Sheikh Moni Gyanendra Government Primary School.
She fell unconscious during class on Wednesday, and later informed her teacher of the matter. A case was then filed by the school Headmaster, Suresh Chandra Dutta.
The home tutor, Manoj Kumar Biswas, now a fugitive, reportedly raped the minor when she was a third grader and continued to do so on a number of occasions.
In Naogaon, a 24-year-old differently-abled girl was supposedly raped by a 60-year-old man in Raninagar upazila, on Wednesday night.
The girl’s father filed a case with Raninagar police station against his neighbour, Gobinda Chandra alias Sutka, on Friday afternoon.
Sutka, now a fugitive, reportedly took the girl to his house and raped her in the absence of family members on Wednesday morning.
