Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex (CEITC) is providing commendable services to hundreds of patients every day, said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University (BSMMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua.

He said this, while inaugurating the Ophthalmology course at Imran Seminar Hall of the CEITC, on Thursday.

Speaking as the chief guest, BSMMU VC said, "Every day hundreds of patients come to the infirmary to get treatment.  Renowned ophthalmologist Prof Dr Rabiul Hossain established the eye infirmary with an objective to provide service to the people and the institution is progressing with each passing day,” he said.

Prof Dr Rabiul Hossain, managing trustee of the CEITC, told the newly enrolled students to take eye care service to the remotest corners of the country.

Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed, chairperson, Community Ophthalmology of the BSMMU, Prof Dr AHM Enayet Hossain, additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services, and Dr Zafar Khaled, chairperson of BSMMU's Ophthalmology Department, addressed the inaugural ceremony.

BSMMU and the Institute of Community Ophthalmology of the CEITC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last year.

Physicians of CEITC under MS (Ophthalmology) course will be able to receive training in basic science and other related subjects. They can also avail field-level and sub-specialty trainings, he added.

Ophthalmology institutes in the country can exchange their faculty members and can jointly conduct research, he further said.

Classes under the MS (Ophthalmology) began at the CEITC from March of this year.
