The ruling Awami League has expelled its general secretary of Kazirbag union unit, and union parishad chairman, Kazi Bulbul Sohag for assisting Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal, Siraj-ud-Daula in a case filed for sexually assaulting Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Awami League president of Feni district unit, Abdur Rahaman said, Bulbul, who is also an advocate, stood for the key accused, Principal Siraj-ud-Daula of Sonagazi Senior Fazil Madrasah in the case, reports UNB.
Following the directive of the party's central committee, Bulbul was expelled for violating party rules, he said.
Sonagazi Madrasah student, Nusrat Jahan Rafi died around 9:30 pm Wednesday, at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Since Sunday, she was battling for survival with grievous burn injuries on 80% of her body.
She was set on fire by four burqa-clad unidentified assailants, reportedly supporters of Siraj-ud-Daula, on the rooftop of the madrasah. Nusrat had previously lodged a sexual harassment case against the principal, accusing him of attempting to rape her on March 27.
