It will take four weeks for the leg to be completely attached

Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP) has decided to donate a prosthetic leg to Rasel Sharker, who lost his left leg in a road accident in Dhaka last year.

Rasel will be taken to CRP in Savar on Thursday for fitting of the artificial leg, confirmed Md Shafiq, head of the centre’s prosthetics and orthotics department.

"The CRP authorities will initially donate a prosthetic leg, built with Swiss technology, and it will be replaced later with an improved leg of German technology," Shafiq said.

It will take four weeks for attachment of the prosthetic leg, he added. "In the meantime, Rasel will receive physiotherapy to conduct all day-to-day activities."

Rasel lost his left leg on April 28 last year, after a Green Line Paribahan luxury coach ran him over when he stepped outside his car to check for damage after the bus had rear-ended the car.

The accident occurred on a slope of Mayor Md Hanif Flyover in Dholaipur.

After being informed, police impounded the bus and detained bus driver Kabir near the National Press Club.

The High Court upheld an order asking Green Line Paribahan to pay Rasel Tk 50 lakh in compensation by April 10. On Wednesday, the company handed a cheque of Tk5 lakh to Rasel, while the court gave owner Md Alauddin an extra month to pay the rest.
