A mentally challenged teenage girl was reportedly raped at Daulatpur upazila in Manikganj district on Tuesday afternoon.
According to local sources, Abdur Rahim, son of Raham Ali, a father of two, confined the 14-year-old girl in a room when she went to his house in the morning, at Shikdarpara village in Jamuna Charland of the upazila.
Rahim raped the girl several times and gave her Tk20 to keep her mouth shut.
The girl went to her elder sister with the money, and started to cry. When asked about the matter, the girl described the incident to her.
When the father of the victim was informed of the matter, he arranged an arbitration in the village the same day, where Rahim confessed to the crime.
Agitated people, who were at the arbitration, gave him a mass beating over the incident leaving him critically injured.
Later, the relatives of Rahim rescued and sent him to Daulatpur Hospital.
The father of the girl filed a rape case accusing Rahim.
Daulatpur police station Officer-in-Charge, Sunil Kumar Kormokar said, the police arrested Rahim on Wednesday morning.
The girl was sent to hospital for medical test, the OC said.
