IHT closed sine die following Chhatra League factional clash

11 leaders and activists of Chhatra League were injured

Update : 10 Apr 2019, 03:19 PM

Authorities have closed down the Institute of Health Technology (IHT) in Rajshahi, for an indefinite period of time, following a clash between two factions of Chhatra League over the sale of a human skeleton.

The authorities stated this via a notice after an emergency meeting of the academic council on Tuesday, reported UNB.

All the students were instructed to vacate their dormitories by 8pm.

Principal Farhana Haq said: “All classes and examinations of the university are suspended and the dormitories will be closed for an indefinite period of time to avoid any untoward incident.”

An argument over skeleton trading was sparked between three students—the followers of Wahiduzzaman, general secretary of IHT unit Chhatra League—and Saiful Islam, a first year student and a supporter of the Chhatra League president.

They went to the Chhatra League president to settle the dispute, but instead, both groups became engaged in a clash, leaving 11 leaders and activists of Chhatra League injured.

Officer-in-Charge of Rajpara Police Station said: “Two of the injured are said to be in  critical condition.

“Acting on information, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control,” he added.

Later, Wahidussaman filed a case against eight students while Sharifa Bani—mother of injured Nafiul Islam—filed another with the police station.
