Medical board for madrasa student set on fire

A medical board has been formed to provide better treatment for the Feni madrasa student who was set on fire.

The board was formed on Sunday.

The student, who sustained 80% burn injuries in the incident, is being treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The President of the board is Professor Md Abul Kalam, who is also the project director of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute (SHNBPSI). 

The other members are Professor of Plastic Surgery Department at DMCH, Rayhana Awwal, Professor and Head of Respiratory Medicine at DMCH, Professor Md Mohiuddin Ahmad, Deputy Project Director of SHNBPSI, Professor Lutfar Kader Lenin, Professor Mohammad Nowajes Khan, Professor Bidhan Sarkar, Dr Nazrul Islam, and Dr Jahangir Kabir.

A female Alim examinee and madrasa student, was set on fire by men in Sonagazi upazila of Feni, on Saturday.

Two people have been detained for their alleged involvement in setting her on fire. They are Afsar Hossain, English Department teacher of Sonagazi Fazil Degree Madrasa, and Arifur Rahman, the female student’s classmate.

The girl’s family filed an attempt of rape case against her madrasa Principal Sirajuddaula on March 27.

Upon a formal complaint, police investigated the matter and found the allegations to be true. The principal was detained and has been in the district jail since then.

The victim’s family says Sirajuddaula’s supporters set her on fire because of the case filing.
