Two madrasah students were gang raped and locked up in a flat for two days in Baligram union of Kalkini upazila in Madaripur on Thursday.
According to locals and victims’ families, the students were a 5th grader and 7th grader at a madrasah in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur.
The rapists lured the two students to a free flat with promises of marriage and were raped by several men. On Thursday night, locals rescued the two girls from the flat.
The accused rapists fled the scene and are fugitives now.
The family of one of the victims filed a case with Dasar Police Station in Madaripur charging four persons – Shakib, Hridoy, Al-Amin, and Noyon.
One of the victims said: “I had an affair with Shakib and my friend had an affair with Hridoy.
On Wednesday, they called us while we were at the madrasah and lured us to an empty flat with promises of marriage and raped us with other friends of their circle.”
According to sources, the Sub-inspector of Dasar Police Station, Delwar Hossain, and former Chairman of Baligram Union Parishad , Motin Molla, were bribed to persuade the victims’ families not to file any case over the rape incident.
Delwar and Motin were supposed to settle the matter through a village salish, but they denied this allegation.
About the rape incident the Superintendent of Police in Madaripur said: “This is not a case to be arbitrated through salish. A case has been filed with the police station.”
He further said that if any policeman were found to be involved with any unlawful activity, legal action would be taken against the policeman.
