Leaders of the Jute Mills Workers’ League and CBA, non-CBA Oikya Parishad have a scheduled meeting at their Paltan office on Sunday.
Earlier this week, workers of nine state-owned jute mills in Khulna and Jessore observed a 72-hour strike, which ended on 6am Friday, to press home their nine-point demand. The strike was observed by workers in several other districts as well.
During the strike, jute mill workers blocked railways and highways in several places across Bangladesh while observing a four-hour shutdown every day.
Their demands include setting up a wage commission, immediate payment of due gratuities and a provident fund.
Addressing the protesting workers on Thursday, Jute Mill Workers’ League President Sardar Motahar Uddin said: “I am optimistic that our demands will be met at the BJMC meeting.
“However, if our demands are not met, we will announce plans for an indefinite movement until the fulfilment of our demands.”
