Orbis International in its humanitarian response program has been restoring the vision of Rohingya children in Bangladesh.
So far, the program has performed surgical operations on nine Rohingya children along with all necessary medicines and relevant services.
Nur Sadeka, a one-year-old Rohingya infant was born with congenital cataract. She had her first surgery in December 2018. She recently received surgical treatment on her other eye as well, restoring her vision in both eyes.
Like Nur Sadeka, Mohammed Sohel, Aysha Begum, 10, Md Soyab, 11, Nur Bibi, 8, Md. Junaied, 3, have also received surgical treatment and ongoing medical support.
With the support of Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), Qatar Creating Vision Expanding Eye Care in South East Bangladesh project performed the follow up surgery on Nur Sadeka on Friday.
Chittagong Eye Infirmary & Training Complex (CEITC) is providing surgical assistance to this program under the supervision of Orbis’s partner Cox’s Bazar Baitush Sharaf Hospital in Cox’s Bazar.
CEITC Surgeon Dr. Merajul Islam performed some of the surgeries under the program.
Prior to the launching of surgery, Orbis conducted eye screenings at Balukhali, other camps and Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) within the camps.
Later, the children identified with eye problems were referred for surgery at CEITC. The project so far examined and provided medical treatment to more than 40,000 Rohingyas including adults and children as well as over 10,000 from the host community.
