The court sent a Tangail Dhopakandi Adarsha Girls High School teacher to jail in the district on Saturday, who had reportedly raped a female student of the institution for years.
According to local sources, Montu Mian, the teacher of the school, also a father of two children, developed a romantic relationship with the student three years earlier when she was in class nine.
At one stage of the relationship, he lured her with offer of marriage, taking her to various places where he raped her several times over the years.
On Saturday night, locals caught the teacher redhanded raping her in her own house. Now the girl is in Class IX at Gopalpur College in the district, and she is 17.
After a mass beating the teacher, Montu Mian, was handed over to the police.
The police produced him in court in the afternoon and he was sent to jail.
Gopalpur police station Officer-in-Charge, Hasan Al Mamun, said the father of the girl filed a rape case on Saturday.
The victim was sent to Tangail General Hospital for medical tests, he also said.
Meanwhile, locals and students from several academic institutions demonstrated in town, demanding exemplary punishment of the teacher.
