Road accidents kill 5 in three districts

A man and his daughter are among three who were killed in two road crashes in Chittagong

At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in three districts on Sunday.

The incidents took place in Chittagong, Sirajganj and Dhaka.

In Chittagong, three people, including a man and his daughter, were killed in two separate road accidents.

In Rangunia upazila, a man and his three-year-old daughter were killed when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided with a car in Shantirhat area around 10:30am Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Aziz, 50, and his daughter Afifa.

Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder said Aziz was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The child succumbed to her injuries later while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

In Karnaphuli upazila, a cyclist was killed when a bus rammed him from behind at College Bazar area around 2pm.

The deceased was identified as Amir Hossain, 30.

In Dhaka, a man died after being run over by a motorcycle at Khilgaon on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Shah Ebadul Haque, 65. He lived in a flat on an apartment building beside the Ansar and VDP headquarters.

His nephew Shah Md Golamur Rahman told reporters that Ebadul was critically injured when a motorcycle ran him over, while he was trying to cross the street near his home to go to the local mosque for Maghrib prayers.

Ebadul, a father of two from Bhola, was first rushed to Khidmah Hospital, and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

DMCH police outpost’s Inspector Md Bachchu Mia said duty doctors at the emergency department declared the man dead around 7:45pm. The body was later kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Sirajganj, a woman was killed and her husband and daughter injured after a bus crushed the motorcycle they were riding on at Kamarkhanda upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Lucky Khatun, 32.

Her husband Nurul Islam and their daughter Fiha, 5, were injured and later hospitalized.

Md Shahid Alam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge west police station, said Lucky was killed on the spot after the bus hit the motorcycle at the west point of the bridge.
