AL men allegedly assault journalist in Lalmonirhat

Daily Amader Shomoy district correspondent Nurnabi Sarker and pedestrian Sharif Molla were also injured in the attack

A journalist was allegedly assaulted while he was taking photos of a procession and counter procession of two Awami League factions in Hatibandha upazila, Lalmonirhat on Tuesday.

“I was taking photos of the processions. In the mean time, some four to five youths from the procession attacked me and started beating me with wooden sticks,” assaulted journalist Asaduzzaman Saju alleged while talking to reporters.

 “They also snatched my camera and broke it,” he said, but added that he only knew them by face but he does not know their names.

Saju, a district correspondent of Daily Manobkantha, was admitted to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex. He was later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Witnesses alleged that the attack was led by Awami League members Sirajul Islam, Sadrul Amin Ripon, and his younger brother Khokon.

Nurnabi Sarker, district correspondent of Daily Amader Shomoy, and a pedestrian named Sharif Molla were also injured in the attack.

Regarding the incident, Hatibandha police station OC Omar Faruk said: “We are yet to receive a written complaint. Necessary action will be taken if a complaint a filed in this regard.”
