At least 50 were injured, including members of the police, in a scuffle between two groups over a trivial issue at the district’s Nasirnagar upazila on Sunday.
Several police personnel were injured after they were deployed in Ashurail village under Burishwar union to disperse the two sides. Afterwards they fired 82 rounds of shotgun to bring the situation under control.
20 were arrested later over the incident.
Eyewitnesses said the issue was over unpaid money over the sale of wheat between two locals in the village.
They said Kajal Miah and Shamsu Miah had an unresolved transaction worth Tk7,500 in purchasing wheat from one another.
The argument later escalated into a physical altercation, when both of them brought people from both sides, resulting in chaos.
This brought the Brahmanbaria-Lakhai regional highway to a standstill for two hours.
Additional Superintendent of Police at Sarail circle Moniruzzaman Fakir confirmed the incident, adding they have brought the situation under control.
