Son allegedly hacks father to death in Jessore

An elderly man has been hacked to death allegedly by his son over a money-related dispute in Jessore. 

The incident occurred at Galda village in Monirampur upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Tajul Islam Patwary, 65.

Abdur Rahman, sub-inspector (SI) of Monirampur police station, said: “Tajul's two sons, Anwar Hossain and Humayun Kabir, work in Malaysia and they had sent around Tk15 lakh to their father from abroad.”

“After returning home recently, they asked their father about the money which led into an altercation. After Jummah prayers on Friday, Anwar again locked into an argument with his father and at one point, he hit his father with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot.”

Following the incident, Anwar fled the scene and went into hiding, added the SI.
