An elderly woman was killed in a fire that burnt her house to ashes along with two cattle in Baraigram upazila of Natore early Thursday.
The body of Ayzan Begum, 80, was recovered in the morning.
Baraigram police station OC Shahriar Khan told the Dhaka Tribune that the fire broke out at a cowshed around 2am from a mosquito coil and shortly spread to the adjacent rooms.
“Ayzan Begum was sleeping in a room right beside the cowshed. Her daughter-in-law Azela Begum tried to rescue her after sensing the fire, but to no avail,” said the OC.
Azela Begum also suffered burns from the fire.
Locals managed to put out the fire after an hour’s effort, the OC added.
