A woman was killed allegedly by her husband’s brother over a trivial matter on Monday night in Jessore’s Jhikargacha upazila.
The deceased has been identified as Khadeja Begum, 50, of Gulbaghpur village under the Ganganandpur union of the upazila, confirmed Jhikargacha police station OC Abdur Razzak.
Police citing Khadeja’s daughter said a family dispute was ongoing between Khadeja’s family and her brother-in-law Rajab Ali’s family for the last few months. On Monday night, one of Khadeja’s goat entered his property triggering a quarrel. In a heated argument, Rajab hit Khadeja with a stick injuring her severely.
Her family started for Dhaka via ambulance but rerouted to Jessore General Hospital when they reached Faridpur where the duty doctor declared her dead.
Jessore General Hospital's Residential Medical Officer Ahmed Tarek Shams said: “Khadeja Begum was already dead by the time she was brought to us.”
A case has been filed with Jhikargacha police station. Legal action will be taken after investigation, OC Abdur Razzak said.
