In separate drives on Monday, Gournadi police arrested two college students for their involvement in the repeated gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in a rented mess at South Bijoypur village, under Gournadi Upazila of Barisal.
Gournadi Police Station OC Golam Sorwar said the victim, a madrasa student, has been sent to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital for medical tests.
The arrestees are Sorwar Hossain, 20, and Sadik Kamar, 19. They are both students of Sahid Abdur Rab Textile College in Gournadi upazila, and live in a rented mess near the victim’s house at South Bijoypur village. They were arrested in drives at the same area.
According to OC Golam Sorwar, Sazzad Hossain Shaon, another student of the college, was in a relationship with the victim. Shaon called the victim to the rented mess on February 7, 11, and 15, and the girl was raped by him and the two arrestees on all three occasions.
The victim’s mother filed a case against the three with Gournadi police station on March 11, saying she had not filed a case earlier as the accused had threatened to circulate a video of her daughter.
Police said drives to capture Shaon are ongoing.
