'Women have trapped themselves in hijabs'

Update : 08 Mar 2019, 10:46 PM

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujon said the BNP-Jamaat coalition is abusing religion to hold back women.

He made the remarks at a discussion program held on the occasion of International Women’s Day at the Panchagarh Government Auditorium in Panchagarh on Friday.

He said: “Women have trapped themselves in hijabs. There is a group of Jamaat members whose eyes are the only thing that can be seen. I do not think religion is connected to it in any way. Women commit crimes in veils too.”

He also said that women are victimized by other women, and in order to prevent these things, women have to step up for their own rights. He also discussed education opportunities for women, while praising Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her inspirational work to empower women.

The railways minister also said the quota protests have hurt women’s opportunities in employment.
