A member of Kalikapur union Awami League died and five others were injured, in a clash that ensued between two factions of the Awami League in Panchkhola union.
The deceased, Shaheb Ali Matubbor, 50, died undergoing treatment at Madaripur Sadar Hospital, on Thursday.
According to locals and police sources, a previous enmity regarding establishing dominance existed between Kalikapur UP Chairman Ezazur Rahman and Shaheb Ali, a member of the Kalikapur union Awami League.
On Wednesday, Shaheb Ali came under attack in Panchkhola union, and was stabbed with sharp objects, while five others also received injuries.
The victim’s family members claim Shaheb Ali was murdered by rival Ezaz and his men.
However, Ezazur Rahman denied such allegations and said: “In reality, Shaheb Ali assaulted my relatives, and now I am being framed under false accusations.”
Madaripur Sadar police station OC, Kamrul Hasan, said: “After the incident, additional police forces were deployed in the area to avoid further untoward situations.”
Legal action will be taken, if the victim’s family files complaints, he added.
