A suspected drug peddler has been killed in a “gunfight” during a turf war in Sharsha upazila of Jessore.
The deceased, 26, has yet to be identified by the police.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Sharsha police station Sub Inspector (SI) Abul Hassan said: “Law enforcers received a tip off that a turf war gunfight is taking place in the Kunchemora area of the upazila in the early hours of Wednesday.
“Two police teams were dispatched in the area to investigate. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the culprits escaped. Later, the bullet-riddled body of an unidentified person, two kilograms of marijuana, one locally made gun and a bullet were found in the area.”
The body of the deceased has been sent to Jessore General Hospital morgue. SI Abul Hassan added that a case would be filed over the incident. Since January this year, four suspects have been killed in "gunfights" in Jessore.
