Goods, crops, and cattle worth around Tk3 lakh have been incinerated in the fire

Update : 16 Feb 2019, 12:10 PM

A 23-day-old baby has died and a lot of household goods have been destroyed in a fire that broke out at a house in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura district.

The deceased was identified as Samiul, son of Nazmul Mollah.

The incident occurred at the house of Nazmul at Raipur Pachimpara village Friday night.

According to his family, furniture, goods, stored crops, and cattle worth around Tk3 lakh - including Tk55,000 in cash - have been incinerated in the fire.

The blaze broke out when Nazmul’s wife went to her neighbour’s house leaving her two children - 6-year-old Mashura and 23-day-old Samiul - at home.

Deceased’s uncle Bablu said: “The fire spread across the house quickly. Later though neighbors managed to rescue Mashura - who also sustained burn injuries- alive, Samiul was found dead.”

Mashura was taken to Mohammad Upazila Health Complex immediately, he added.

Mohammadpur Upazila Fire Service Team Leader Mustaine Hossain said the fire might have originated from a kerosene lamp. Moreover, a lot of jute fibers that were stored inside the house helped the fire to spread rapidly and caused maximum damage.
