Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained an active member of Hizb ut-Tahrir from his own residence at Khasdabir area in Sylhet on Sunday afternoon.
The detainee, Md Ashraful Karim Khan, 28, admitted to being a member of the militant outfit, RAB Assistant Director (Media) JM Imran told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “We raided Ashraful's house following a tip-off and arrested him around 1:55pm.
“We also found around 1,000 leaflets propagating anti-government statements and documents on terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
The RAB official said the messages are written in an inciting manner inviting young people to join Hizb ut-Tahrir and oust the government and the armed forces in order to establish Khilafat.
Ashraful has been handed over to Sylhet airport police station, said RAB sources.
