A hailstorm that swept over several upazilas of Kurigram on saturday afternoon caused huge damages to crop fields, and buds of mango and litchi plants.
The hailstorm hit vast areas in Sadar, Rajarhaat, Bhurungamari and Nageshwari upazilas around 4:30pm and lasted for more than half an hour.
The in-charge of Kurigram Agricultural Meteorological Observatory, Prodip Kanti Roy, said that they had recorded 7.5mm rain along with hailstorm in the area.
Agriculture Officer of Sadar upazila Md Kamruzzaman said that the growers of pumpkin, cucumber, bitter gourd, thatch pumpkin, pointed gourd had reported damages to their crop fields after the hailstorm.
Damages to mango and litchi buds have also been reported from those areas.
The extent of losses would be figured out based on information collected from field officials, Kamruzzaman added.
Dhaka Tribune correspondents from several other districts also reported heavy rain and thunder shower.
