Corruption watchdog Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has urged the police force to carry out its duties while staying above intimidation, partiality and selfish interests.
In a statement issued on Tuesday on the occasion of Police Week 2019, TIB lauded the prime minister’s statement at the opening ceremony.
“We are encouraged by the honourable prime minister’s insistence that the police ensure that no innocent person is victimized and harassed by the police,” TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said in the statement.

“We need to remember that protection of the law is a constitutional right for everyone,” he said.
“We are hopeful about the prime minister’s instruction to carry on with anti-drug drives. At the same time we want to be sure no one will die without a trial in so-called crossfires.”
He also said: “We have learned from media reports that a number of demands have been placed to the government by the police force, most of which are reasonable and deserve positive consideration.”
