Police have rescued a spotted deer, after being informed by locals in Mathbaria upazila in Pirojpur, on Thursday.
Mathbaria police station OC Shawkat Anwar confirmed that matter and said: “The deer has been handed over to a Bogi Station official at Sarankhola Forest Office.”
Bogi Station official Mizanur Rahman Molla said: “The deer will be released in the Sundarbans, home to the endangered species.”
Meanwhile, Bagerhat Forest Department on Thursday recovered a slaughtered spotted deer from Kagar Varani area of Mongla Upazila in the district.
In-charge of Choraputia camp of Sundarbans, Md Ismail Hossain said they saw an empty boat on Gakar Varani channel during their regular patrolling and recovered a slaughtered deer, 200 traps used for deer poaching and permits of three fishermen.
A case was filed with a Bagerhat court in this connection.
With the latest recovery, authorities have now seized 85kg venison from Sundarbans in the last three weeks.
Earlier on Wednesday, a six-month-old spotted deer of an animal farm was found slaughtered at Mohonpur village of Kalukhali upazila in Rajbari district.
Kalukhali police station Officer-in-charge SM Abu Farhad said locals slaughtered the deer while it was running across the field in pain and injury marks from a dog-bite.
