A doctor is reportedly on the run following the death of a patient he treated at a private clinic in Mirpur area of Sirajganj Sadar upazila. Dr Anisur Rahman Anik, who runs a private chamber at Central Pathology Clinic, performed an endoscopic sinus surgery on Dulali Khatun, 32, of Mechra union around around 11am on Thursday, according to Dulali's brother Jahrul Islam. But as the patient fell unconscious after the surgery, the physician took her to Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared her dead around 12 at noon. Jahrul also said that Dulali was first taken to Urban Health Care Centre (UHCC) and Dr Anisul, who is also a practitioner there, asked her to visit his private chamber for further treatment. Jahrul has filed a case against Dr Anisul over the incident. Sirajganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Helal Uddin said: “Dr Anisur has been on the run.” Police have already detained the manager of the clinic for further inquiry. Asked to explain why Dulali was moved to Dr Anisur’s private chamber from UHCC, its Assistant Administrative Officer Nasima Begum said: “The patient was not admitted to UHCC because we do not have any operation theater here.” “We did not know that our physician Dr Anisur was moving the patient to his private chamber from UHCC,” she added. Sirajganj Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Manzur Rahman said: “Earlier two similar complaints were lodged against Dr Anisur.”
