A couple has been found dead with their throats slit at their farmhouse in Saidpur upazila of Nilphamari.

The deceased Nazrul Islam, 55, and his wife Salma Khatun, 45, hailed from Parbatipur upazila in Nilphamari.

They were killed by miscreants at their farmhouse in the Balapara area in Khatamdhupur union in Saidpur upazila, in the early hours of Sunday, confirmed Saidpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahjahan Pasha.

Abdur Razzak, 38, a worker at the farmhouse, was stabbed when he tried to stop the miscreants. He has been admitted to Saidpur’s 100-bed hospital in critical condition.

According to police, the couple and a few workers used to raise cattle at this Balapara farmhouse. In the early hours of Sunday, miscreants entered the farmhouse and slit their throats.

Saidpur Assistant Police Superintendent Ashok Kumar Paul and OC Shahjahan Pasha inspected the farmhouse on Sunday morning. "After collecting primary evidence, the bodies will be sent to Nilphamari Sadar Modern Hospital for autopsy," the OC said.

Khatamdhupur union Chairman Jewel Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune that the deceased couple, who lived with their family in the Darul Ulum area of Saidpur town, would often reside at the farmhouse to tend the cattle and other livestock.
